London Listed Building Lookup
Use this lookup to jump straight to the National Heritage List for England (NHLE) by postcode or London borough. The NHLE, maintained by Historic England, is the only authoritative register of listed buildings, scheduled monuments, registered parks and gardens, registered battlefields, protected wreck sites and World Heritage Sites in England.
How to read a list entry
- List entry number. A unique seven-digit identifier. Always cite this in any heritage statement or planning correspondence.
- Grade. Grade I (exceptional, around 2.5% of listings), Grade II* (particularly important, around 5.8%), Grade II (special interest, the remainder).
- List description. The body of the entry. The whole building is listed, not only the features named, but the description records what Historic England considered notable at the date of listing.
- Date first listed and date of most recent amendment. Older descriptions can be brief and miss interior features that are nonetheless protected.
- Curtilage. Structures attached to or pre-1948 ancillary to the principal building are also protected, even if not described.
